Finnish saunas, built in New Zealand
Authentic saunas, built to the highest standard.
We bring genuine Finnish heritage into New Zealand homes, combining Scandinavian craft with your vision, so every sauna we design, build and install is exactly right for how you'll use it.
Brought to you by a Scandinavian-trained, qualified sauna builder.
Every FinnSauna room is designed with you, prepared in our Auckland workshop and built on site from materials we import ourselves from Finland and Estonia.

Every kind of sauna, custom built.
We're sauna builders in Auckland working right across New Zealand. Whether you want a home sauna in a spare room or an outdoor sauna with a view, we design it around your space and build it properly.
Sauna builders in Auckland, working NZ-wide.
Our workshop is in Stanmore Bay on the Whangaparāoa Peninsula, north of Auckland. That's where we design every room, make and test-fit the benches, and keep our stock of heaters and timber. From there our team builds saunas across the North Shore, Auckland and the rest of New Zealand, with team members covering the upper North Island, the lower North Island and the South Island.
We've built home saunas in apartments and on lifestyle blocks, saunas for councils, aquatic centres, gyms and spas, and a few on the other side of the world. The process is the same every time, and so are the people doing it.
Finding the right spot for a home sauna.
Most homes have room for a sauna somewhere. A spare bedroom, the end of a garage, a bathroom, a pool house or an unused corner of the garden can all work. Even a small two-person sauna gives you proper heat and löyly, and if you'd like to lie down, a bench around two metres long does the trick.
What matters is the power supply, ventilation and what goes behind the walls. Send us a few photos and rough measurements and we'll tell you what's possible, what heater it needs and roughly what it involves.
The core of every Finnish sauna
Building your own, or upgrading an old sauna? Heaters, controls, timber and accessories are for sale online, most of it in stock at our Auckland workshop and shipped nationwide. Imported by us, direct from Finland and Estonia.
The right heater, sized to the room.
The heater is the heart of a sauna, and an undersized one is the most common problem we see. We size every heater to the room volume, with extra power for any glass, stone or tile, so the room heats properly and the elements last.
We stock Harvia electric heaters from compact wall-mounted models to 22 kW commercial units, plus Harvia and Narvi wood-fired stoves, steam generators and controls you can run from your phone.
Finnish and Estonian sauna timber.
Sauna timber has to stay comfortable to touch at 80 °C, cope with steam and keep its shape for decades. We import thermally modified alder and aspen, spruce, abachi and Respect panelling ourselves, and use them in every room we build.
Not sure what to choose? Our sauna timber guide explains which woods suit walls and benches, or browse sauna timber for sale.
From first sketch to first löyly.
Every FinnSauna build goes through the same seven stages, whether it's a small home sauna or a commercial facility.

In Finland, the sauna isn't a luxury. It's where life happens.
Finland has an estimated 2 to 3.2 million saunas for a population of just 5.5 million. For almost every Finn it's the most important room in the house: where they relax, socialise, do business and mark life's biggest moments.
Our founder grew up inside that culture, bathing in his grandparents' sauna in Lahti, by Lake Alanen, more than fifty-five years ago. That same respect for the ritual, the heat and the löyly is what he brings to every sauna FinnSauna builds in New Zealand today.

New Zealand's longest-established sauna specialist.
Same owners. Same people running it. No sell-offs, no change of hands — just the ones who started it, still building saunas in Auckland.

Every sauna has its own character — its own distinctive löyly. The better the löyly, the more enjoyable the sauna.

Founder & CEO
What people ask us most.
How much does a home sauna cost?
It depends on the size, the heater, the timber and where it's going. Every FinnSauna sauna is custom, so the quickest way to a figure is to send us rough measurements and a photo of the space.
Indoor or outdoor sauna?
Both are great. Outdoors gives you the walk out into fresh air and suits a wood-fired heater. Indoors is right there whenever you want it.
Do saunas use a lot of electricity?
Less than most people think. At around 40 cents per kWh, an 8 kW heater running flat out costs about $3.20 an hour, and once the room is hot the heater cycles on and off, so a session costs less.
Infrared or traditional sauna?
A traditional sauna gives you high heat and löyly; infrared gives a milder, longer warm. Here is an honest comparison, or have both in a hybrid.
Do you sell sauna kits?
No. Every FinnSauna sauna is custom designed and built for its space. We do sell heaters, timber and accessories if you're building your own.
Where do you work?
All over New Zealand, from our workshop in Whangaparāoa, Auckland. We've built saunas from Northland to the South Island, and as far as the Maldives.
